I do believe that prejudice does get in the way of the truth. For example, In The play Twelve Angry Men, originally the most of the jurors believed that he is guilty based on not only the evidence but the knowledge of his living situation in the "slums" and his criminal record/ background. Prejudice is preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience In a way prejudice is stereotyping, and everyone has stereotyped a person.
I agree that prejudice can get in the way of the truth, but I do also believe that under the circumstances of the case specifically the defendants background, especially his criminal one should be considered.
ReplyDeleteAlthough his previous records and background can be considered a factor, I don't believe his background should be used in determining his actions of a new event. Everyday is a new day and he could have possibly changed his mindset because of the reform school he had attended. Although it is unlikely, there is still a minor chance of him changing. Therefore, I do not believe his background should be used in this case.
