6A-Brandon Lee

Being a determined and skilled individual can wield a lot of influence. This lesson can be seen through the actions of Juror 8 in the play, Twelve Angry Men. In the trial, Juror 8 is the only juror who attempts to say that the defendant is not guilty. After many arguments occur in the deliberation, Juror 8 was confident in his side of the story on why he believed the defendant wasn't guilty. Juror 8 wanted to talk about the trial before possibly changing the life of a teenager because he believes "[they] owe him a few words. That's all" (Rose 15-16). Juror 8 believes the background of the defendant can affect how the jury views the case. He is confident and proficient in the way he uses his words to slowly persuade the jury's overall verdict. With his confidence in his ideas, he ends using it strongly and successfully to influence the verdicts of the other jury members.

  1. Having confidence helped him in a strong manner because without it they would've just all voted him guilty and moved on with their life. Juror 8 showed confidence and spoke his mind and they re viewed the evidence to find out the real facts

  2. Juror 8 was the only one to come forward and say he thought the kid was not guilty. He stood up for what he believed in even though he was standing alone. He had to have some major confidence for that.

  3. I like the point that it was his confidence that got him where he did, because had he swayed even once, that would have been it for convincing the others. He needed to have total faith in what he was saying, or the other jurors may have gotten to him, and there would have been a very different outcome.
