Pt. 1 #1A- Rachael McCord
Prejudice gets in the way of the truth. In Twelve Angry Men most of the jurors show prejudice towards the boy because he is from the slums. They automatically label the boy as a bad kid, and therefore their minds go strait to guilty. Instead of keeping a open mind about the facts and different possibilities of the case, they immediately stereotype the boy. If juror eight wouldn't have made them think twice this prejudice could have cost the boy his life.

I agree with this, the jurors made up their mind before any evidence was present. Stereotypes can be dangerous, because juror eight had to really convince the other jurors to even think about the kid being innocent. It took time for juror eight to get the rest of him on his side, and the prejudice was the thing that was holding him back. So yes, the last sentence you wrote was very good. If they would've just went with his past, they could have imprisoned an innocent boy.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, since the jurors lived in that type of environment, they already have set stereotypical opinions about the boy which causes an unfair trial.
