1A - Brandon Lee
Prejudice gets in the way of the truth and can be a strong factor in one's opinions and thoughts. This lesson can be seen in Twelve Angry Men because many of the jurors enter the room with their bias and predetermined opinions about the defendant. While the jurors are attempting to come together on their verdict, the prejudice can easily be seen in Juror 3. Juror 3 judges the defendant on how he's a kid and how "[kids] don't listen" (Rose 21). Because of his bad experiences with his son, Juror 3 is inclined to have prejudice towards the defendant which greatly affects his thoughts on whether the defendant is guilty or not. Whether guilty or not, Juror 3 is using prejudice and judgement to come up with his decision.

I believe the reason the jurors went into discussion with predetermined opinions about the defendant are not necessarily due to prejudice. Their probably based on the fact that they listened to a six day trial and the prosecutor provided a lot of evidence while the defendant did not. Although i do agree with your analysis of Juror 3.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Juror 3 is the only one with a predetermined opinion because of the personal relationship with his son. The other jurors, although, in the dialog, did not seem prejudice.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that their frustration with the trials length added fuel to their arguments and predetermined opinions. These opinions may have been escalated much further then they would have been had the trial not lasted so long. Juror 3 was probably frustrated and taking it out on the defendant.

ReplyDeleteI also would have to agree that the defendant didn't have a solid alibi, nor did the defendant provide much evidence to put himself in a non-guily position. But, I do agree with your thoughts on Juror 3. It is known from the first act, that his own experiences with his kid may have swayed him into thinking certain things of all kids. Although there were other jurors with prejudice opinions and or thoughts, like juror 10.
